Early Baroque Splendor
Meike Herzig & Artemandoline
A knack for improvisation and willingness to experiment – Meike Herzig and Juan Carlos Muños play music together to wonderful effect. Many of the old melodies require a careful, source-critical adaptation in addition to an imaginative interpretation. Feeling your way into the music from times long past and dealing with it in inspiring ways – these are important aspects of the collaboration between Artemandoline and Meike Herzig. Their shared love for early baroque music inspired an exciting programme: “Alla Ciaccona”, music from the early 17th century, offers audiences the chance to hear structurally elaborate and virtuoso chaconnes. Recorder and mandolin compete over the basso ostinato, performed imaginatively by mandola, baroque guitar, viola and harpsichord.
