Cuando el Rey Nimrod
Ensemble fowr
This medieval programme explores the historical figure of King Nimrod and the origins of the story of Abraham. Starting from these beginnings, the musical journey leads from Spain to Italy, France and Central Europe — with music about kings and queens, power and love, and the experience of exile and homelessness.
Works from different regions and periods are presented, including Sepharad and Ashkenaz, Paris and Istanbul, Florence and Granada. The programme includes, among others, “El Rey Nimrod”, “Numi Numi”, “Mizmor leDavid”, “Dance Royal”, “Nel boscho senca folglie”, “In rosa primula” and “In forma quasi”.
Corina Marti first studied Baroque and Renaissance recorders as well as harpsichord. Her love for the music of the Middle Ages and the early Renaissance led her to the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where she completed her studies with a diploma under Pierre Hamon and Kathrin Bopp.
Recorder player and harpsichordist Corina Marti is internationally recognised for her “remarkable, outstanding and expressive interpretations” (Toccata) and her “faultless performances” (Diapason). Her activities as a soloist, ensemble musician and teacher regularly take her throughout Europe, North and South America, and the Middle and Far East.
She is the director of La Morra and fowr, both award-winning ensembles specialising in late medieval and early Renaissance music. She is a leading pioneer in the reconstruction of keyboard instruments and recorders of the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance and has been teaching medieval recorder at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel since 2003, and medieval keyboard instruments (including organetto, clavicimbalum, clavicitherium and Renaissance harpsichord) since 2007.
