Masterclass
6 lessons, led by Prof. Maurice Steger & Friends
On Friday, 15 May, we invite you to a high-level masterclass featuring six public teaching sessions. In a focused workshop atmosphere, participants will have the rare opportunity to work with internationally renowned artists, gain valuable impulses for their own musical development, and explore new artistic perspectives.
Prof. Maurice Steger will work with soloists and small ensembles on selected repertoire, addressing interpretative, technical, and stylistic questions at the highest artistic level. The morning will be complemented by a lecture given by Prof. Meng-Heng Chen on the topic “The secret to beautiful ensemble sound”, offering practical and clearly structured insights into key aspects of ensemble playing. Participants are warmly encouraged to bring their own instruments.
Six public lessons of 30 minutes each are offered for young recorder players, dedicated amateur musicians, students, and professional performers alike. The open teaching format not only allows active participants to benefit from intensive artistic coaching, but also gives the audience direct insight into musical working processes, rehearsal methods, and interpretative decision-making.
A harpsichord tuned to A = 440 Hz and A = 415 Hz will be available.
Participation in the masterclass combines individual artistic development with inspiring exchange and the opportunity to benefit from the experience of internationally active teachers — a compact yet content-rich format that serves as learning space, meeting place, and artistic forum alike.
Experience music as it is created – and discover the recorder from a new perspective.
Please apply for active participation by 1 April 2026 using the registration form below: Participation fee: 60,00€, reduced fee for children and students
Afterwards, the teachers, together with the festival management, will select a programme that is both artistically demanding and offers the audience a representative and varied insight into current questions and approaches in recorder performance. Care will be taken to ensure a well-balanced and diverse selection of repertoire, ensembles, and stylistic perspectives.
